Welcome to Aledo, Texas. Aledo, Texas, known as “Bearcat Country” (school mascot) is located just 15 miles west of downtown Fort Worth in southeastern Parker County. Football and “Friday Night Lights” are a way of life in this small community.
The first settlers in the area were from Georgia; they called the area Parker’s Station. This name, however, caused confusion for the postal authorities, and after the tracks of the Texas and Pacific Railway were laid nearby and businesses were built close to the rail line, a Texas and Pacific official suggested that the new site be named after his hometown, Aledo, Illinois.
An Aledo post office was opened in 1882. By the mid-1880s the settlement had an estimated 150 residents and had become a shipping point for area farmers. The town’s steam cotton gin, corn mill, bank, and 21 businesses established Aledo as a retail center for eastern Parker County by 1915. The population grew to 400 by the 1920s; the community was incorporated in 1963. Today, Aledo and the surrounding area are one of the fastest-growing in North Texas.
The population of Aledo now is just under 3,000 and is served by the Aledo ISD. There is one High School (10-12), one Ninth Grade campus (9), one Middle School (7-8), one Intermediate School (6), and four Elementary Schools.
The Aledo area consumes a much larger area than the city population eludes too. Other surrounding areas that share the same 76008 zip code and/or School District include portions of Fort Worth, Annetta, Annetta North, Annetta South, Willow Park, and Hudson Oaks. The estimated population for the 76008 zip code is about 15,000.
